The Christmas season always brings out the desire to help those who are in need. We like to think that we’re always aware of those needs but the reality is that our pocketbooks don’t always follow what we know to be true.

Except at Christmas.

This year The Message Church wants to go above and beyond in giving and have a Kingdom perspective. So, we are having a special offering called “Dare to Be Great” that will run until the end of January 2013. Our focus is two-fold:

We want to help some local families who have some special needs, and

We want to help put a roof on the church in Ubaúna, Brazil.

Each Sunday there will be 2 types of special offering envelopes available. One will be in the bulletin you receive when you enter and the other will be on the table in front of the small cross in the back of the worship center. The envelopes in the bulletin are for the roof in Brazil and the envelopes at the cross are for our local families.

Our goal for the roof is $1500; the more we receive for the local outreach will mean that we will be able to help more families.

Please let the “Christmas spirit” have free reign in your pocketbook this year; you, we, have the potential to do something far greater than any of us can imagine!

Cell groups meet on Tuesdays in Leland and Wilmington at 7:00 p.m. For information and directions, please call or email.

Belong groups are not just the heart of church, they ARE the church! Reading in the book of Acts, the sense of family, the displays of power, the walk of authority, all took place within the structure of cells. No two cells are identical and each has their own personality. The common thread is an amazing sense of belonging, love and acceptance and the realization that what we read in the New Testament actually applies to littl’ ol’ me.

Come visit a gathering of a cell as our special guest. There is no obligation nor expectation… we welcome visitors into our family gathering and you will feel perfectly at home.

Auld Lang Syne

Well known in many English-speaking countries, Auld Lang Syne is often sung to celebrate the start of the New Year at the stroke of midnight. By extension, its use has also become common at funerals, graduations, and as a farewell or ending to other occasions. The song’s Scottish title may be translated into English literally as “old long since”, or more idiomatically, “long long ago.”

The Message Church is going to bring out the Auld Lang Syne, not just to bid farewell to 2010, but to hail the arrival of the new year of 2011. We are going to do it under a heaven that is open and waiting for those who are adventuresome enough to venture before heaven’s throne and ask for the impossible to become possible during the course of the coming twelve months.

We’ll gather at 9:00pm with refreshments and light snacks to enjoy the last whispers of the current year. At 11:00pm we’ll move into the mindset of anticipating the soon to arrive new year and go before Abba to seek His favor.

Come join with us and experience the beginning of a New Year like you’ve never done before!

On December 4, between 9:00am to 12:00pm, The Message will be hosting a hands-on workshop on prayer. This will not be your ordinary lecture only class; it will be a serious, real-life training for being more effective, powerful and authoritative in your praying. The emphasis will be on outcome based results brought about through both information and exercises that will be presented during the workshop.

The workshop will be led by pastor Joe. Coming out of his training and personal experience, he states that what has been the catalyst of much of what has happened in his own prayer life has been an increasing awareness of what prayer isn’t and what it really is. He felt like such a miserable prayer-failure for so many scores of years that he assumed that it either wasn’t real or that there was something wrong with me. Talking with others, he heard the same story.

Starting with an “I can’t believe that just happened and now I get it!” experience in March of 2000, he began to progress helter-skelter in his understanding of, and experience in, prayer. He said it was “helter-skelter” because it wasn’t organized nor pretty, it often appeared to make absolutely no sense, but, it “advanced the ball down the field.”

He admits he is not an expert by any stretch of the imagination; rather, he will share what he has seen occurring personally and corporately, and what has enabled him to pray better, stronger, more powerfully and authoritatively. He is determined to see the impossible occurring and the God-of-the-angel-armies giving glimpses of the activity taking place in the heavenly realms.

It will be an interesting, provocative, enlightening and empowering three hours.

Anyone who would like to attend is welcome to come. There’s no charge, no obligation, no strings and free coffee.

We’ll all be paesani for another weekend in September at the Second Annual Cape Fear Italian Festival. The outdoor celebration is scheduled for Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26 in the area around the Cross Creek Commons Shopping Center on US 17 in Leland, in front of the Walmart.

Last year, despite a rainout just hours into day one, an estimated 6,000 people attended the festival, including US Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Alito, to enjoy food, vendors, games, music and other entertainment. Sponsorship, admission and proceeds from raffles at the festival allowed the Cape Fear Italian Festival to donate $3,000 for scholarships for students at Brunswick Community College. This year, the festival will be bigger and even better. We’ve expanded the size of the festival, which will give us more room for more of… well… everything! And hopefully that means even more money for the BCC Foundation to help students.

The festival is hosted by the Cape Fear Italian Festival, Inc. , a not-for-profit coporation aimed at sharing the rich traditions of Italian-American culture and heritage with our community. The Message Church will be present at the activities on both days, opening our new facilities for the use of festival participants and sharing in the festivities. Pastor Joe Carr will open up the affair with the invocation on Saturday morning.

You won’t want to miss this!

For more details on the Festival, click here.
